Peter Auty

Peter Auty is established as one of Britain’s leading tenors. He made his professional debut with Opera North in 1998 and was a company principal with the Royal Opera House from 1999 to 2002 where he had the opportunity of working with many of the world’s leading conductors. He has returned to the Royal Opera as a guest singing the roles of Malcolm Macbeth and Arturo Lucia di Lammermoor.

Roles elsewhere include Don José Carmen (Opera North, Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera, Glyndebourne on Tour); Rodolfo La Bohème (English National Opera, Scottish Opera, Glyndebourne on Tour); Turiddu Cavalleria Rusticana (ENO, Opera Holland Park); Canio I Pagliacci (Opera North, Opera Holland Park), Lensky Eugene Onegin (Scottish Opera, Opera Holland Park), Dick Johnson Fanciulla del West, Gabriele Simon Boccanegra, Pollione Norma, Duca Rigoletto, Italian Tenor Der Rosenkavalier (ENO); title role Faust, and Alfredo La Traviata (Opera North), Pinkerton Madama Butterfly and Laca Jenufa (Welsh National Opera), Bill in Jonathan Dove’s Flight (Scottish Opera), Nemorino L’Elisir d’Amore and Macduff Macbeth (Glydebourne Festival Opera), Alvaro La Forza del Destino, Radames Aida, Maurizio Adriana Lecouvreur, Count Vaudemont Iolanta, and Roberto Le Villi (Opera Holland Park); Cavaradossi Tosca (Grange Park Opera, Northern Ireland Opera), and Paul Die Tote Stadt (Longborough).

Abroad he has worked with several companies including Frankfurt Opera, Essen Opera, Opera Bonn, New Zealand Opera, Malmo Opera, and New Zealand Opera. He recently performed the title role in Franchetti’s Asrael for Opera Bonn.

On the concert platform Peter has worked with the London Symphony Orchestra (Sir Colin Davies), the Hallé (Sir Mark Elder), and the London Philharmonic Orchestra (Neemi Jarvi, Vladimir Jurowsky). Appearances abroad have included concerts with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra under Edward Gardner, and the Royal Flemish Philharmonic under Edo de Waart.

Peter Auty made his recital debut in London in the 2009 Rosenblatt Recital Series. During the 2011 BBC Proms season he performed the tenor solo in Havergal Brian’s Symphony No.1 The Gothic at the Royal Albert Hall in London with combined forces of over a 1000 musicians now released on the Hyperion label.
